The first thing you should consider is whether the school bag is large enough to carry all the things they need. It should also be made from a material strong enough to endure daily use without tears or splits. What each child needs exactly may vary, but generally a few pockets within the bag are very useful.

Many school book bags and PE Bags can be machine-washed. You should always check the care instructions on the label though. It can be a good idea to turn the bag inside out to avoid straps getting caught, or you can put it inside an old pillowcase.
